WALK & ROLL 2022 IS HERE!

The time has come once again for Tulare County Association of Governments' Walk & Roll Art Contest. The purpose of this contest is to encourage local students to think critically - and creatively! - about the ways two important themes: Active Transportation and Air Quality.

Scheduled during the weeks prior to and following National Walk to School Day (October 5, 2022), Walk & Roll invites Tulare County children in kindergarten through 12th grade to create original pieces of art depicting their visions of creative ways we can do our part to improve our air quality and create healthier communities by taking transit, or safely walking, skating, biking, scootering, and similar means to get to and from school. Contest winners will receive a FREE BIKE, along with a certificate of accomplishment and other bike-related gifts, during the December TCAG board meeting. At least one high school winner and at least one K-8 winner will be selected. Runners up may be selected according to sponsorship funding availability.

Walk & Roll for Grades K-8

Participating students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade - Please submit artwork that is no larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches (standard printer paper). Students may complete their artwork using whatever medium they choose (paint, pencils, crayons, digital, etc.).Students may complete their artwork using whatever medium they choose (paint, pencils, crayons, digital, etc.).

Please put the following information on the back of the student's artwork:

  • Student's name
  • Student's grade
  • Student's school
  • Parent/Guardian name & Parent/Guardian phone number, OR if artwork is completed as part of a class activity, the Teacher/Instructor's name and contact information may be used*

Please note that if any of the information listed above is missing, or if the artwork is submitted without a completed and signed photo release and artwork release, the student will not be eligible to participate in the contest.

*If you are a teacher or instructor and you plan to submit student artwork on their behalf, please obtain photo and artwork release forms from the parents/guardians of your students prior to submission and email a shared folder containing the artwork and release forms to TCAGinfo@tularecag.ca.gov.

Walk & Roll for High School Students (Grades 9-12)

This year, high school students are invited to create a short advertisement promoting any of the following topics:

  • Walk/Roll to School Day
  • Air Quality
  • Public Transportation
  • Active Transportation Safety

As usual, winners will receive a FREE BIKE, along with a certificate of accomplishment and other bike-related gifts, during the December TCAG board meeting. Additionally, students might also win a chance for their video to be featured in future TCAG active transportation promotions on local TV channels!

Contest Conditions:

Participants may work alone or in groups of up to 4 (four) high school students. Students are welcome to collaborate with students from other high schools, but every group member must be a current student of a high school located in Tulare County.

Students are welcome to use any film style or medium available to them - animation or live action, serious or humorous, cinematic or journalistic. However, submissions that contain profane, discriminatory, or derogatory language, violent or suggestive imagery, or any elements that would be otherwise inappropriate in a school setting, will not be accepted. 

Students may use popular video content apps, as long as the work to be submitted is sharable outside the app itself as a video file.

Videos must be at least 15 seconds long, but no longer than 30 seconds.

When submitting your video, please ensure that the following information is contained either in the video description, file name, or is provided to TCAG via email on the day of submission:

  • Student(s) name
  • Student(s) grade
  • Student(s) school
  • Parent/Guardian(s) name & Parent/Guardian(s) phone number, OR if artwork is completed as part of a class activity, the Teacher/Instructor's name and contact information may be used*
